EF & T has provided expert witness services to attorneys representing both plaintiffs or defendants. EF & T is not an advocate but can be depended upon to provide unbiased opinions based on the facts of a case and other information that becomes available through research. In addition to material provided through the discovery process, our research includes use of our extensive library and laboratory facilities. In those cases where expertises beyond the scope of EF & T’s are required, we will work with other experts and laboratories to form a working team.

The principal, John E. Johnson, Ph. D., P.E. is a communicator who can effectively explain scientific findings and results. His experience in teaching, research, failure analysis, and accident reconstruction spans over 35 years.

Following is a very brief look into EF & T’s involvement in the area of engineering forensics.

Jury Box

Can Your Forensics Engineer interpret complex facts to 12 non-technical jurors...

... and to you?

On the Stand

How do you go about selecting an engineer for litigations requiring structural investigations and failure analysis?

There are three essential attributes to look for when you want more than just an opinion. More than a basic knowledge of the design process, so often inadequate.

  1. Seek out a highly qualified, currently active professional with resources for the most thorough investigation.

  2. A confidant able to provide you with an understanding of engineering principals to enable you to completely represent your client.

  3. And an expert witness able to simplify complex technical facts into the language of the lay person.

Dr. John Johnson

One Person - Or Three?

The expert is not always a communicator. The good communicator is not always the most qualified.

Dr. Johnson Ph.D., P.E. can save you time and the need to coordinate multiple efforts because of his unique qualifications.

Expert-and Still Experiencing

Important to you is Dr. Johnson's experience in arbitration and courts. Having worked with students, industry, government and attorneys, he has learned to adapt to each particular audience. His role is to provide skilled investigation, analysis, evaluation, guidance and expert testimony.

A scientific investigator, not a client advocate. Independent. Objective. Impartial. Sometimes, his opinions may not concur with your client's legal expectations. But you can be sure there will be no surprises in court. In fact, his findings may point to the advantage of effecting a settlement in lien of long and costly litigation.

Test Equipment

Investigation-Analysis-Testimony

A product failure...a construction accident...a structural building failure. Dr. Johnson can personally perform a thorough and complete investigation. On-site inspection, laboratory testing, review of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.

At his state-of-the-art laboratory, he is able to initiate testing and provide documentation of product properties, structural design, as well as "autopsies" of building failures. Test results that yield hard data about the product or system failure. He can prepare case-related exhibits such as models, photographic enlargements or video documentation.

But as you know, your success in technical legal proceedings comes down to your expert's communications skills. Dr. Johnson's findings will be presented in unbiased testimony-by understood by you, the judge and the jury which will decide your case.

Dr. Johnson's facilities are conveniently located in Cambridge, just outside of Madison, WI. Please keep this website noted in your "experts file" as a reference for the future. Or, if you need to speak to him about a pending case, call (800) 535-6640 or email us at info@engineeringforensics.com for more specifics about his areas of expertise and how they meet your needs.
