Ladders & Scaffolding Portable ladders are used by everyone from homeowners to persons in the construction trades. Even though ladders are designed and manufactured to meet the appropriate ANSI standards, accidents can occur if proper safety conditions are not observed, if a ladder is not properly maintained, or if defects exist at the time of an accident. According to the ANSI standards, ladders must be maintained in a safe working condition and be properly set up and used in an appropriate safe manner. The ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Standards cover a wide array of ladders such as extension, step, trestle, platform, articulated, combination, and double front. Materials used in the construction of ladders are wood, aluminum, and fiberglass. The most commonly addressed ANSI Standards regarding ladders made from these materials area A14.1, A14.2 and A14.5. Dr. Johnson of EF&T has been personally involved in testing ladders of all types and in the development of the three major ANSI Standards. Please call us if you have any questions regarding a particular situation in which EF&T can be of service. |
